In Nepal, the economy is dominated by agriculture. In the late 1980s, it was the livelihood for more than 90 percent of the population, although only approximately 20 percent of the total land area was cultivable, it accounted for, on average, about 60 percent of the GDP and approximately 75 percent of exports. Kanchanpur is located in southern-west of Nepal. It is bordered with Kailali district in east, Dadeldhura district in north and with modern-day india in south and west.

Kanchanpur, The majority of population is occupied by ethnic Tharu community and minor group are the peoples that have migrated from northern hilly region. The district is renowned for Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve and 1456.97 meters long multispan suspension bridge over Mahakali River. Jhilmila Lake, Bedkot Lake, Bandatal, Shovatal and Vishnu Temple are the other places of tourist attraction.
