U.S. Capitol Pol!ce sh0t a male suspect Monday afternoon after he pulled out a g^un at the Capitol Visitor Center, law enforcement officials said. A female civilian bystander was !njured by shrapnel, but no U.S. Capitol Pol!ce officers were !njured. “We believe this is an act of a single person who has frequented the Capitol grounds before, and there is no reason to believe this is anything more than a criminal act,” said Capitol Pol!ce Chief Matthew Verderosa during a brief news conference. “The suspect was taken into custody and transported tot he hospital for treatment. The suspect is currently undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown at this time. A weap0n was recovered on the scene,” he said. The gu^nman attempted to go through the metal detectors at the Capitol Visitor Center entrance. When those magnetometers beeped, he was stopped by security and then pulled out a g^un.
